Spirit Airlines check-in: Web, Mobile, Airport and Counter

Spirit Airlines check-in

What is the process for checking in for a Spirit Airlines flight?

Spirit Airlines check-in offers the following methods:

  • Online or mobile check-in is free.
  • Kiosk Check-in.
  • At an airport ticket counter, a $25 fee per passenger is charged when boarding passes are printed by Spirit Airlines agents; the fee is waived for those unable to complete online or mobile check-in or depart West Palm Beach, Florida.

How long does it take to check in for a Spirit Airlines flight?

Before arriving at the airport, Spirit Airlines recommends checking local news and airport information and arriving at the airport with enough time (2 hours for domestic flights and 3 hours for international flights) to get the boarding pass (if you have not checked in online), pass through security, and reach the boarding gate on time.

Passengers must obtain their boarding passes before the minimum check-in times, which apply to passengers checking luggage:

  • 45 minutes for domestic flights.
  • 60 minutes – international flights and US Virgin Islands flights.

Spirit Airlines reserves the right to cancel your reservation or seat assignment if these minimum check-in times are not met, and you do not obtain your boarding pass 45 to 60 minutes before the scheduled or posted departure time.

Mobile Check-in

If you have a confirmed Spirit Airlines flight reservation, you can use mobile check-in. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has issued security directives that restrict mobile check-in to certain international locations. You may be able to check in up to 60 minutes before your scheduled departure date.

Mobile check-in options include:

  • At lower rates than airports, you can purchase carry-ons and/or checked bags.
  • Seat assignments are free. When you check in, Spirit will assign you a seat randomly, but you can request one from $1 to $200 for regular seats, or from $12 to 750 for big front seats.
  • To purchase bags or seats or print/email boarding passes, passengers traveling internationally must enter data from their passports.
  • After you have printed or emailed your boarding pass, you can proceed directly to the Fast Bag Drop (available at certain airports for online bags weighing up to 40 pounds) to drop off your luggage, then go through security and to your gate.

 Check-in at Spirit Airlines airport

  • Spirit Airlines passengers must check in at the airport ticket counter:
  • Travelers to and from certain international destinations.
  • Passengers departing from international locations who are not US citizens.
  • Extra seats or special items purchased by passengers.
  • Travelers with infants on their laps.
  • Minors who are unaccompanied.
  • Service animals or pets traveling with passengers.
