Malaysia Airlines check-in: Web, Mobile, Airport and curbside

Malaysia Airlines check-in: Web, Mobile, Airport and curbside

What is the check-in process for Malaysia Airlines?

The following options are available for passengers traveling with Malaysia Airlines:

  • Web Check-in.
  • Mobile Check-in.
  • Kiosk Check-in.
  • Kuala Lumpur City Air Terminal (KL CAT).
  • Counter for Check-in.

Malaysia Airlines requires Economy Class passengers, except those flying to Kathmandu and Dhaka, to self-check in.

How do self-service check-in options benefit you?

Any e-ticket holder with a confirmed booking can use the self-service check-in option. A web, mobile, or kiosk check-in facility is available for advance check-in up to 48 hours before departure. One hour before takeoff, passengers can drop off and tag their baggage.

The boarding gate is open to passengers without checked baggage. Self-service Check-in Kiosk/Bag Drop Counters require checked baggage passengers to bring the printed or mobile boarding pass and travel documents no later than 60 minutes before departure.

In order to reduce check-in times, Malaysia Airlines now offers Self-Print Baggage Tags on domestic and international flights departing from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Regardless of whether you’ve already checked in online or via mobile device, you’ll need to print your baggage tags and tag your baggage before proceeding to Bag Drop.

Excess baggage must be processed at the Bag Drop counter and paid for at the Excess Baggage counter before it can be accepted.

Boarding gates for Malaysia Airlines flights close 30 minutes before flight departure time and, if you arrive late at the gate, you will not be allowed to board.

Is it possible to check in for connecting flights as well as returns?

Passengers can enjoy one-time check-in to multiple destinations in Malaysia and Singapore, with Return Check-in. As long as you hold a single PNR, you can check in to your final destination with a one-shot Check-in and all baggage will be transferred directly.

If you are traveling on separate tickets, Malaysia Airlines offers thorough check-in to the final destination for passengers and luggage if you begin with a Malaysia Airlines flight connecting with a One world partner airline, a codeshare partner carrier, or a subsidiary airline (Firefly and MASwings).

Online Check-In

Online check-in with Malaysia Airlines is much easier and quicker than standing in long lines at the airport. 48 hours before departure, it offers a web check-in option. By visiting the airline’s website and filling out the required information, you can do your web check-in. To check-in online, follow these steps:

  • Visit the airline’s official website.
  • From the web page, select Check-in
  • Please enter your booking reference, E-ticket number, and last name in the fields provided.
  • Right now, other passengers can be checked in.
  • Select your flight’s seat.
  • Click on the confirm button to complete your web check-in.
  • Boarding passes can be downloaded.

Mobile Check-in

From 48 hours to 90 minutes before departure, this service is available. A Mobile Boarding Pass or a PDF boarding pass will be provided to passengers checking in with the mobile service, depending on the departure airport’s requirements:

  • Mobile Boarding Pass – saved in Malaysia Airlines’ app or an SMS. Mobile Check-in with a Mobile Boarding Pass is only available on domestic flights and ASEAN destinations.
  • PDF boarding pass – attached to the mobile check-in confirmation email that you must print before flying.

An airport security checkpoint and the gate will scan the 2D barcode on the mobile boarding pass during boarding. Because boarding occurs one passenger at a time, only one boarding pass is issued per mobile phone.

Kiosk Check-In

Airport kiosks are self-service devices where you can check in and collect your boarding pass. A kiosk for the company is located at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Bharu, Johor Bahru, and Langkawi. International flights can only check in at the airline’s kiosks in Adelaide, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Jakarta, and Singapore.

As with online check-in, its kiosk check-in process is similar. To check in at the Kiosk, follow these steps:

  • At the airport, find the Malaysia Airlines kiosk.
  • To check in, touch the screen.
  • Please enter the E-ticket number or booking reference number and last name in the fields provided.
  • Check-in is complete.
  • Kiosks are available to print boarding passes.

Kuala Lumpur City Air Terminal (KL CAT)

The Kuala Lumpur City Air Terminal (KL CAT) is located within the KL Sentral station, where passengers can check in and drop off their luggage. For international flights, the service is available up to two hours before departure, and for domestic flights without luggage, up to 90 minutes.

Counter Check-in

Malaysia Airlines Counter Check-in closing times are:

  • Kuala Lumpur International Airport and other international airports: 60 minutes before departure for all flights.
  • Domestic airports:
    • 45 minutes before domestic flights.
    • 60 minutes before international flights.

Malaysia Airlines Check-in and Closing Times

Check-in time is the time to check-in, and closing time is the time you cannot check-in. Both online and offline check-in and closing times are listed below:

As early as 48 hours before your flight’s departure, you can check in online or via your mobile device. Online check-in closes 90 minutes before flight departure.
