Can you tell me when to check in for my KLM flight?

It is important to remember that KLM is not responsible if you arrive late at the gate due to long lines at immigration, security, check-in desks, or kiosks. To avoid delays, KLM strongly recommends getting to the airport at least two hours before your departure if you are leaving from Europe, 2 to 3 hours if you are departing from the Caribbean, the Caribbean Islands, or the Middle East, or 3 to 4 hours if you are departing from Asia, North America, or Africa. Be sure to check with the airport directly for specific rules and times.

There are different check-in and closing times based on your route and departure airport

Check-in closes 40 minutes before departure for European flights, except for departures from the following airports:

Istanbul – 60 minutes before departure.
Intercontinental flights – the check-in deadline is 60 minutes before departure, except for departures from the following airports:

Bonaire and Guayaquil – 70 minutes before departure.
Freetown – Please arrive 80 minutes before departure.
Lagos – 90 minutes before take-off
Accra and Paramaribo – 120 minutes before departure.

How do I check in online for a KLM flight?

KLM check in online for a KLM flight, you can avoid long airport lines and save time. To check-in online, visit the KLM website, enter your booking details, and follow the steps below.
Online check-in usually opens 30 hours before departure (24 hours for U.S. flights) and closes one hour before take-off.
Checking in online requires an internet connection and the following steps:
Head to KLM.com
Click on Check-in
For checking in with you:
Please provide your ticket number or booking code, as well as your flight number
If you have a loyalty program number and a flight number, enter them.
Hit the Check In button
Select your flight and check in
Checking in online also allows you to change your seat, pay for baggage, book a meal, and download your e-boarding pass.

Note. In exceptional cases, you can only check in at the airport’s check-in desk.

Check-in via KLM’s mobile app

Checking in before your trip is also safe and easy with this method.
If you have already received a text message with your flight information, click on the link. If not, click on the check-in option on the KLM app.
On the screen, you will see your flight number, booking code, and the number of your ticket.
Take advantage of the discounts on extra luggage (20% or more) and choose your seat and other options (if you choose).
Get your Electronic Boarding Pass.
In case an Electronic Boarding Pass is not available at your departure airport, you can print your boarding pass at home, at the airport (at the self-service machines, baggage drop-off points, or check-in desks).

At Schiphol on your flight.
Other airports require two hours’ notice.

What is the process for checking in at a self-service kiosk?

Choose from the following options:

Your passport
Your frequent flyer card.
Your booking code.

Self-service kiosks are also available for checking in:

Select your seat, special meal, and baggage
You can upgrade your seat and pay for it
Take a printout of your boarding pass

Passengers Not Eligible for Self-Service Kiosk Check-in

In the following cases, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines does not offer self-service kiosk check-in, so passengers will need to check in at the airport desk:

Unaccompanied minors
Passengers traveling with pets
Individuals who require special assistance and are unaccompanied by at least 15-year-old passengers

Check-in at the airport desk: Steps to follow

If no machines are available, you can check in at the desk. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol desks open at 4:30 p.m. KLM Crown Lounges are also available in Amsterdam, Houston, and Toronto.

At the airport desk, you can check in physically:

For European flights. From 2 hours to 40 minutes before your flight.
It is advisable to arrive 3 hours 60 minutes before an intercontinental flight.

When you show your valid travel documents at the airport desk:

You can check your bags
You’ll be assigned a seat
You’ll be given your boarding pass

Boarding

The gate will open 60 minutes before departure for European flights and 90 minutes before departure for intercontinental flights. Boarding begins 30 minutes before departure for European flights and 60 minutes for intercontinental flights.
Boarding time may vary by airport and destination. You will not be allowed to board the aircraft if you arrive after the gate closes.

Check-in policy for KLM

To ensure a clean boarding process, it’s imperative to know KLM’s check-in deadlines. Online check-in typically opens 30 hours before departure and closes 1 to 3 hours before your flight’s scheduled departure time, depending on your destination. Be sure to check your flight’s exact departure time.
KLM offers seat selection options during the online check-in process. Depending on the fare class, seat selection will also be charged. Passengers with higher fares or elite status may also have complimentary seat selection.
