How long does it take for Frontier Airlines passengers to check in?

For Frontier Airlines flights, whether or not you check bags, the online/mobile check-in time limit is 60 minutes before departure. The airport check-in time limit is as follows:

  • 45 minutes before departure time – domestic flights (within the continental U.S. and Alaska).
  • 60 minutes before departure time – for international flights only.

In the case of a connection with another airline, where do I check in?

To determine if your travel itinerary requires a connection to Volaris, you must contact the airline operating the first flight segment. Based on your itinerary, you may be required to check in with Frontier Airlines or Volaris if your Frontier Airlines ticket includes a connection to Volaris. You will receive boarding passes for all codeshare flights when you check-in.

Frontier Airlines Online Check-in

Check-in for Frontier can be done online via the Frontier website starting 24 hours before departure. The passengers must provide their booking confirmation code and last name to use this option. Check-in for online flights usually closes 60 minutes before departure.

  • You can visit the airline’s website at https://www.flyfrontier.com/
  • Go to the “My trip/Check-in” tab. 
  • Provide the 6-digit alphanumeric booking reference and last name of the passenger. 
  • Choose the segments of the flight.
  • You can select/upgrade the seats, check your baggage, or buy extra luggage. 
  • The process should be completed. 
  • A boarding pass will be emailed or posted online by the airlines. 
  • Download and print your Frontier boarding pass.

Tip: Online bag check-in costs less than airport bag check-in. 

It is important to note that passengers can request check-in online up to 24 hours before the departure of their flight. The online portal closes 60 minutes before departure.

To Check In Through Frontier’s App, Follow These Steps: 

  • You can download Frontier Airlines’ app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
  • The “Check-in” button will appear.
  • To retrieve the booking, enter the PNR code and last name.
  • Click on the flight segment you wish to check in for.
  • Select seats, add baggage, and make special requests.

  • A valid government ID and a passport are required, along with the confirmation code and passengers’ last names. 
  • View your itinerary by scanning your credit card. 
  • In addition to purchasing checked bags, upgrading seats, and printing Frontier boarding passes, the kiosk also offers other services.

The boarding process

Frontier Airlines recommends getting to the gate earlier since boarding typically begins 30 to 35 minutes before departure. Frontier Airlines uses Zone Boarding to simplify announcements and speed up boarding:

  • Special Needs Boarding (no announcement) – wheelchair users and unaccompanied minors who need assistance boarding. Frontier Airlines does not announce Special Needs Boarding, so if you require assistance boarding, you need to speak to a Frontier agent at the gate.
  • Zone 1 boarding is reserved for Frontier Miles Elite members and passengers who have purchased the WORKS or PERKS bundle (Zone 1 boarding depends on the carry-on bag option).
  • A courtesy boarding service is available for families traveling with small children (under 3 years of age) and other passengers who need additional assistance boarding.
  • From the aircraft aft forward, passengers in Zones 2, 3, and 4 were called in order.

In select stations where both the front and rear aircraft doors are used for boarding from the ramp, Frontier Airlines may change the boarding order.

In addition, there is no airline check-in fee. You can check in on both platforms for free, but you must pay extra if you choose the offline check-in option.
