What is the check-in procedure for Cathay Dragon flights?

Cathay Dragon check-in offers the following options:

  • Online check-in.
  • Mobile Check-in.
  • In-town check-in.
  • Kiosk Check-in.

How long do Cathay Dragon flights take to check in and board?

The deadline for online, mobile, and in-town checking is 90 minutes before departure. Kiosk check-in is available up to 50 minutes before departure. If you choose to check in through one of these options, your bags must be dropped off at the self-check-in bag drop counter at least 50 minutes before departure time.

In most airports, check-in counters close 40 minutes before departure, but exceptions may exist.

Cathay Dragon check-in requires passengers to present their boarding pass at the Boarding Gate Service Desk 30 minutes before departure

Check-in online

The following flights allow passengers to check in online between 48 hours and 90 minutes before departure:

  • Cathay Pacific operates all Cathay Dragon flights (KA).
  • Cathay Pacific (CX) flights, including code-share flights operated by Cathay Dragon.

Cathay Dragon or Cathay Pacific Airways e-tickets are required for online check-in. Online check-in is not available when:

  • The passenger needs medical assistance.
  • Minors who are unaccompanied are booked.
  • Group bookings are made in the booking process.
  • The ticket requires an additional payment.
  • There was an extra seat purchased.

For connecting flights with other airlines, you may check in as long as the direct flight is operated by Cathay Dragon or Cathay Pacific. You must check in for flights one by one, in the same sequence as your itinerary. Cathay Pacific Airways, Air China, Air France, China Southern Airlines, China Airlines, Eva Air, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas Airways, Singapore Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines, and Swiss International Airlines are among the airlines participating in the Through Check-in service.

Online check-in allows you to:

  • Choose/change a seat for yourself and your companions.
  • Adding or updating frequent flyer numbers is possible.

Obtain your boarding pass:

Self-printing Pass (only available 24 hours before departure when traveling to/from the United States). Passengers departing from select airports, including those transiting in Hong Kong, can print the boarding pass (passengers with connecting flights departing from other airports will not be able to print the boarding pass).

Select airports to offer mobile boarding passes.

Where available, you can print your boarding pass at a self-check-in kiosk.

You can collect your boarding pass and drop your bags by presenting the confirmation page at a designated bag drop counter. Those traveling with their parents may have to appear at the counter in person if they are traveling with their infants.

Check-in via a mobile device

Mobile check-in offers the same benefits as online check-in, just that it is accessible anywhere and anytime. As with online check-in, mobile check-in requires no application download. Mobile check-in has the same restrictions and exceptions as online check-in. Mobile boarding passes are available where they are available, but mobile check-in confirmations do not function as mobile boarding passes.

Passes for mobile devices

Passengers checking in for Cathay Dragon and Cathay Pacific flights departing from available airports can request a Mobile Boarding Pass, except when:

  • There was an infant fare on the passenger’s ticket.
  • This service is available to unaccompanied children.
  • We purchased an air ticket and a ferry ticket together.
  • In addition to Hong Kong, onward connecting flights depart from other airports.
  • The passenger has a return flight on the same day or within 24 hours.

There are only some flights departing from selected airports that can use a Mobile Boarding Pass. Passengers traveling to/from the US can only issue a mobile boarding pass 24 hours before departure. To confirm your travel, you must immediately click on the hyperlink. Passbook is an option for storing your mobile boarding pass with Cathay Dragon.

In-Kiosk Check-In

In addition to checking in online for Cathay Dragon and Cathay Pacific flights (except codeshare flights), passengers can also print their boarding passes after checking in online or baggage tags at Self-Check-in Kiosks 48 hours before departure.

In Busan, Fukuoka, Penang, Shanghai – Pudong, Taiwan (Kaohsiung, Taipei Taoyuan – A1 Taipei Main Station, Taichung), there are self-service Check-in Kiosks. The Bag Drop Kiosks are available at Taipei Taoyuan – A1 Taipei Main Station and in Taipei Taoyuan in Hong Kong, Haikou, Hangzhou, Sanya, Xiamen, Bengaluru, Kuala Lumpur, and Taipei-Taiyuan.

The in-town check-in process

To check in for your trip to Hong Kong International Airport, you may do so at Hong Kong, Kowloon, or Tsing Yi Airport Express/MTR stations up to 90 minutes before you depart.
